When it comes to warehouse racking inspections, one of the questions that comes up a lot is whether we can only inspect our own brand, or whether we can inspect other systems as well. To help clear that up, we spoke with Shayne Grissell, Senior Rack Inspector at Macrack. Shayne has been with Macrack since 2005 and brings 21 years of hands-on experience across racking inspections, damage assessment, repairs, and compliance. In this interview, he explains that Macrack can inspect other brands of racking too, not just Macrack systems, and runs through what that looks like for the customer once the inspection is done.

Can Macrack inspect other brands of racking, or just Macrack systems?

Yeah, we can inspect other brands as well, not just Macrack. If they have got Dexion, Colby, whatever, we will help them out. It is not just limited to Macrack racking. A lot of places have all sorts of different racking in there, and we will still go through it and inspect it. We are basically looking at the same sort of things, whether it is one brand or another, damage, missing components, safe workload signs, whether it is bolted down properly, all that sort of stuff.

Does the inspection process change much when it is another brand?

Not really in terms of the inspection itself. We still visit site and do a visual inspection of the racking. We walk up and down every rack, checking for defects, damage, anything unsafe, and then put that into the report so the customer can follow it properly. That part is pretty much the same.

What kinds of issues are you usually finding, no matter what brand it is?

Mostly damaged uprights or beams, and maybe beam pins or locking pins missing. They are probably the main things that we find. Another big one is safe workload signs not being on the rack at all, so no one actually knows what they are meant to be putting on it.

Can Macrack also repair other brands of racking if problems are found?

Yes we can, it is sort of a one stop shop. A lot of the other audit companies out there are not affiliated with a racking company, so they will literally only do the audit. Then it is just, here is your audit, now you go find out what you need. That makes it a bit hard for the customer. With Macrack, once you get your audit and your quote for everything, we can do the repairs as well. That is where it makes it easier for the customer, because they are not just being handed a report and then told to go work the rest out themselves. 

If Macrack finds damage in another brand of racking, what happens next?

We will give them a quote to carry out the repairs, or deliver components if they want to do it themselves. If they are repairing through us they get booked in, the repairs get done up to standard, and that gives them a bit of peace of mind that it has all been sorted properly.
