This is where a lot of businesses get caught. Your older racking (compliant under AS4084:2012) is compliant if it remains in the same warehouse and is used for the exact same purpose.
Once you pull it down and relocate it to a new premises, that is a different situation.
At that point, you either need new racking or you need the manufacturer to come out and specify what changes need to happen so that the racking can be certified.
You Cannot Just Assume It Is Still Compliant
A rack that was fine in one warehouse is not automatically fine in another warehouse.
The floor may be different. The geolocation may be different. The layout may be different. The use may be different. The beam heights may change. The pallet weights may change. The aisle layout may change.
All of that can affect whether the racking is still suitable.
That is why relocation or buying used racking needs to be looked at properly.
Older Racking And The 2023 Standard
Technically, any racking made prior to 2023 cannot simply be brought up to the latest standard by default.
However, if the company still manufactures in the exact same way and purpose, they should be able to give recommendations on how to do so.
Those recommendations may or may not be expensive.
Generally, it might be adding a bit more bracing and changing some foot plates, and then the rest may be good to go.
But if the company no longer manufactures the exact same style of racking, they may tell you that you have to scrap the existing racking and buy brand new.
Why Manufacturer Support Matters
This is where Macrack’s on-shore manufacturing becomes a huge advantage.
Macrack continues to manufacture racking that has been found to surpass the latest standards of AS4084:2023. Because of that, clients who relocate or buy used Macrack racking may only need to change foot plates and add one more bit of brace, with the rest able to be certified as compliant. This is a real testament to the quality of the Macrack brand.
That is not just about selling racking.
It is about helping clients grow and progress through their business journey without forcing them to throw away a system that can still be made useful.
If you are moving warehouses, do not just pull the racking down and put it back up somewhere else. Get it checked, get the manufacturer involved and find out what actually needs to happen.
